Custom Shop are back with a bang! One of the first new Custom Shop built semi’s to make it into Europe and this guitar does not disappoint. Conceptually the ’59 Kalamazoo ES-335 is supposed to look like an original showroom ’59. In previous years a lot of time has been given to recreating the feeling of a road-worn instrument that has lived a long and prosperous life on the road. What we really love about this piece is that they are breaking from that mission and aiming to give you something that harks back to, quite literally, their first day on the wall and on sale in 1959.
The quality of Custom Shop is second to none. Dare we say it, these new issue 335’s might even pip the Memphis built ones for us… Everything about this guitar is supposed to honour an original ’59 with a sturdy early ’59 neck profile and the MHS pickups, as soon as you plug-in you feel like you’re channelling a 20 year old Eric Clapton in Cream. As with all Gibson semi’s their versatility is arguably their greatest selling point. When clean the clarity is superb and when driven the sound couldn’t be meaner!
